Long Lasting Comfort

Freedom’s body-fitting contours ensure the user sits in comfort all day long. Our cushions are built to maximise comfort for four hours, rather than the industry standard four minutes, which is as long as a sit-test in a new chair generally lasts.

Freedom’s intelligent recline mechanism automatically provides custom support for every user, and encourages healthy, spontaneous movement throughout the day. Without cumbersome knobs or levers, and with no manual adjustments, Freedom task makes active sitting effortless.

Didn't appreciate it until it was gone

I used the Freedom Task chair for about 4 years at my previous job. I never really thought much of it until I started working from home a few days a week. Only then did I realize that the chair in my home office caused severe discomfort after about an hour or two of use. I asked one of my old colleagues to find out what type of chair was in my old office. I bought the Freedom Task, and the difference was immediately apparent. I never thought I'd spend this much on a chair, but it was well worth the investment.

Love this chair

Chair fit seems to be a very person specific thing. This chair has become my go to chair for people with comfort issues. The people I introduce this chair to in our firm never let it go once they sit in it! Yes I have one and have sat in quite a few.

With so many options to customize your perfect desk chair, this is just the best chair ever! I can sit for extremely long periods with the comfy gel seat. The superb back support and adjustable soft leather armrests contribute to good posture with no stress points. I am so happy with my Freedom Task chair that I gave one to my husband. Now we are both happy customers. (Plus customer service is the best!) Double thumbs up!

Niels Diffrient

Niels Diffrient's designs are grounded in the philosophy that form follows function. His work has spanned generations, consistently looking past trends to reinvent the tools we use for daily living.

With an academic foundation in design and architecture and a degree from Cranbrook Academy, Diffrient channels his knowledge of engineering, architecture, and human factors into the creation of highly functional and aesthetically timeless designs.

From his early work with the studios of Eero Saarinen, Marco Zanuso, and Henry Dreyfuss to his current work with Humanscale, Diffrient's visionary talent has been widely recognised. Included among his many honours are the 2002 National Design Award from the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, and the 1999 Chrysler Design Award. In recent years, Diffrient has focused his energies on designs for the office environment, particularly seating--a category in which he has pioneered numerous breakthroughs, from pneumatic cylinders for seat height adjustment to weight-activated automatic recline.

Eager to create a truly ergonomic task chair that adjusted to the user automatically, Niels Diffrient created Freedom, which allows the sitter to change postures effortlessly. Replacing the traditional recline mechanism with a weight-sensitive one, Diffrient’s Freedom task chair revolutionized the way people sit.
