Humanscale Introduces Forward Thinking Seating Solutions for the Future of Work

New Solutions in Seating Offer Ergonomic Benefits and a New Way to Work

New York, NY, June 13, 2016 – At NeoCon this year, Humanscale will showcase new introductions in seating that offer to challenge the status quo, yet remain true to the company’s core principles of simplicity, functionality and longevity. Humanscale’s Chicago Showroom will feature two ready-toorder solutions including an occasional chair by Niels Diffrient and a multipurpose chair by Todd Bracher, as well as a new textile for ergonomic seating by Elizabeth Whelan, and two never-beforeseen
Niels Different prototypes. These offerings not only present new ways to work, they provide a lens into the future of the office environment. Learn more about each of the new seating solutions below.

Diffrient Occasional
Neils Diffrient’s signature ergonomic approach continues in his designs of the Diffrient Occasional chairs. Functional, minimal, and comfortable, the chairs were created as complementary additions to his mesh task chair lines. Offering an ergonomic solution for occasional seating, the new Liberty, Smart, and World Occasional chairs incorporate a patented tri-panel backrest made with proprietary form-sensing mesh to create a three-dimensional form that fits like a tailored shirt for support in all positions. With body-fitting contours that single-panel stretch mesh chairs cannot achieve, the backrest offers perfect recline, comfort and lumbar support without external devices. The chairs’ seat cushions fit to the natural shape of the body for optimal comfort. With its weight-sensitive recline, it automatically supports every user at every recline position. The mesh back and upholstered seat draw from Humanscale’s range of ergonomically conscious textiles in a variety of colors and provide a consistent look with Humanscale’s task chairs. The frame, made predominantly from 100% recycled aluminum, is long lasting and environmentally friendly. Lightweight, each chair is easy to move and stack up to five high. Breathable and airy, their
clean aesthetic and thin profile is designed to complement any environment. Alongside the Occasional chairs, Humanscale will reveal the prototypes of never-before-seen Niels Diffrient designs, which they plan to introduce in 2017.

Corde 4 Textile
Designed by Elizabeth Whelan for Humanscale, Corde 4 is named for its weave structure and fourway-stretch. It was created using small modular weave formations that undergo a half-drop repeat process. This unique design features a rib-like dimensional surface on the face of the fabric that is visually appealing and engaging to touch. Corde 4 offers an even surface on the back, making it stable, and the four-way stretch conforms to unique shapes — supporting the ergonomic objectives
of Humanscale chairs.

Trea
Designed by Todd Bracher, Humanscale’s Trea chair features a sophisticated design that embodies versatility and is a fresh, modern take on multipurpose seating. Bracher says he designed this nextgeneration chair to be “younger, smarter, and faster” than the existing chairs on the market and that his intent is to break away from legacy office furniture. Inspired by the simplest of nature’s structures, Trea was designed to mimic the instinctive recline of the human body and embrace the sitter in a supportive shell. It is available with three interchangeable base options. A variety of seat upholstery choices for the chair will be available later this year.
